Rio 1992 Conference

The United Nations sustainable development conference with the topic of “Environment and Development” was held in Rio de Janerio, Brazil, 1992.  In Agenda 21 of this conference (sometimes called Earth Summit) chapter 17was about protection of oceans, all kinds of seas, including enclosed and semi-enclosed seas, and coastal areas, and the protection, rational use, and development of their living resources. Through the resolution of this conference, the participated countries were encouraged to experience ICZM in their coastal zones to remedy the growing problems at these sensitive and invaluable areas.
